About

Biography Mexican graphic and typographic designer, illustrator and calligrapher. Founder and principal of Cimera studio, since 1994. He has executed projects for Grupo Modelo, José Cuervo, Fondo de Cultura Económica, Pearson, Siruela, Camel and Warner Music, among other clients. He developed the new identity for Mexicana airlines and Grupo Presidente, in collaboration with Danish design firm Design:Success. He has done illustration for children and fantasy books, such as «El Libro Salvaje» by Mexican writer Juan Villoro and the «Ink Trilogy» by German author Cornelia Funke. He is constantly engaged, as well, in personal projects on Calligraphy, Art and Illustration. Some original typefaces by Meave are distributed worldwide by Adobe Systems. He has designed custom type for El Economista, Sol, Palacio de Hierro, Jumex and Telcel, among other companies and brands. He designed, as well, the official typeface of the Mexican presidency, used today for all federal government communication. His work has been reviewed in the international magazines How, Step, Communication Arts, Novum, Etapes, Page, TPG, Page, Typo and Desktop. He has been featured also in the books Typography 21, 22 y 27 y 29, PlayLoud!, Tres Logos, Language Culture Type, Marcas MEX and Graphic Design in Mexico: 1900-200, among many others. He has been awarded five times by the Type Directors Club of New York, and has received two ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale) awards for Excellence in Type Design. First Prize on the National Design Biennial 2001, as well as three a! awards in 2002, 2003 and 2008. Recently, he was selected among the 100 most influential emergent designers of the world for the book «Area_2», published by Phaidon Books, in England.
