CUT&PASTE LONDON 2012

Cut&Paste was back in London with its world famous Digital Design Tournament, but with a new special edition format. Combining its 2D and 3D competitions into a new 2D/3D Competition, four teams of 2D/3D design pros from London's top-shelf Motion/Animation community faced off in a three-round team competition. The Digital Design Tournament also featured its Motion/Animation competition with five 15-second videos each competitor created in eight furious hours. Congratulations to Jay Harwood & Colin Bigalow for being our winning 2D/3D team and to Motion/Animation winner Steve West!

COMPETITION ARTWORK

2D/3D COMPETITION - THEME: HEART OF LONDON

The 2D/3D competitors were challenged to prepare a pitch concept for a hypothetical short video that thematically expressed the HEART OF LONDON. The competition was made up of three rounds: round one ended in a Concept Board, round 2 finished with a 3D model, and round 3 culminated in a polished Styleframe. To keep the competitors on their toes, they were required to use a scene of an interior and a scene of an exterior and include live video/photography.

2: Colin Bigelow & Jay Harwood
3: Pavel Ivanov & Stefano Ottaviano

MOTION/ANIMATION COMPETITION - THEME: THE BEAUTY OF SOUND

The Motion/Animation competitors were challenged to create a 15-second video over a course of eight hours based on the theme THE BEAUTY OF SOUND. Through the videos, they expressed their personal appreciation of sound or any genre of sound. The visuals in the video had to have a strong relationship with sound, and they were allowed to use any sound or music with proper permission.

"DESIGN FOR CLEAN WATER" CHALLENGE

This year, we have a special audience design contest in collaboration with charity: water and sponsored by Adobe to drive awareness for an important problem: access to clean water for all.

Right now, one billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water. On mycharity: water, you can run, bike, or give up birthday presents to raise money to fund water projects for communities in need, and 100% of all donations directly funds water projects. In addition, every dollar donation is linked to a water project and proved with photos and GPS. Now, charity: water seeks the help of the Cut&Paste design community for fresh ideas.

Your Challenge: In a 15-minute offstage round, sketch a graphic that represents an activity you would do to raise money for clean water using the iPad and Adobe Ideas app, provided at Cut&Paste. The winner from all global entries receives the opportunity to work on a charity: water campaign. Click for more details.

AUDIENCE PHOTO DESIGN CHALLENGE

"MESS WITH JESS" CHALLENGE

Do you like to play pranks and practical jokes? Well, our London Sponsor HP is hosting a contest called Mess with Jess where you can show us your best prank. Here's how it works:

First, grab some props and get a photo taken playing your best prank, then get 10 minutes using one of the HP Z1 All In One Workstations to fill in the rest of the photo with your most creative sketching and illustrations. The HP Z1 is the latest creative workstation from HP that gives you all of the power, without the tower. There's also some t-shirts up for grabs for anyone that gets involved.

At the end of the night, select images will be narrowed for a final vote where you the audience will determine who wins a sick HP product to be revealed at C&P.
